What makes a pro CS2 setup?

6 patterns that show up on nearly every page in our database
01

Low resolution + 4:3 stretched

Most CS2 pros play at 1280×960 or 1024×768 stretched, not native widescreen. Stretched player models render visibly wider, making targets fractionally easier to land at any range. A holdover from 1.6 that pros went right back to when CS2 restored stretched modes.

02

400 DPI is the universal standard

Median pro DPI is 400, with in-game sensitivity between 1.5 and 2.5 — landing eDPI in the 700–1000 range. Low DPI + low sens trades raw speed for the precision of micro-adjustments. Going much lower or higher is rare among the top 50.

03

240Hz minimum, 360Hz common

Every top-50 CS2 pro runs a 240Hz monitor or higher. Many are on 360Hz panels (Zowie XL2566K, Alienware AW2725DF) and the early 480Hz adopters like s1mple are pushing the new ceiling. Frame rate beats picture quality at every tier.

04

Low graphics — except shadows

Pros disable nearly every visual setting (FXAA, V-Sync, post-processing) but keep Global Shadow Quality on Low, not Lowest. The player shadows themselves are a callout — you can spot enemies behind walls before they peek. Lowest removes the shadow entirely and the tell with it.

05

Raw Input on, mouse accel off

Universal pro hygiene. Raw Input On bypasses Windows' input smoothing. Mouse Acceleration Off ensures every hand movement maps 1:1 to camera movement. Pair with Windows pointer speed 6/11 (the default 1:1 setting). Skip these and your aim will never be consistent across sessions.

06

Featherweight wireless mouse

Around 60–65 grams is the modern pro standard — the Logitech G Pro X Superlight (1 & 2), Razer Viper V3 Pro, and Pulsar X2/X3 dominate the top tiers. Lighter mice mean faster flicks and less wrist fatigue across 8-hour scrim days.

CS2 pro settings FAQ

The questions visitors search for most
What DPI do most CS2 pros use?

400 DPI is the overwhelming pro standard — paired with in-game sensitivity between 1.5 and 2.5, giving an eDPI of 600 to 1000. A small minority use 800 DPI with proportionally lower sens, but 400 is what you'll see on roughly 80% of player pages in our database.

Why do CS2 pros play 4:3 stretched instead of 16:9?

At a stretched 4:3 aspect ratio, player models render visibly wider than at native 16:9 — making targets easier to land. The tradeoff is reduced peripheral vision on the sides. Most pros decided the wider-targets benefit outweighs the lost FOV, especially for AWPers and riflers. CS2 restored stretched modes after a brief absence, and the meta went right back to it.

What monitor refresh rate is best for CS2?

240Hz is the competitive floor. Below that, you're at a measurable disadvantage in fast duels. Many top pros run 360Hz (Zowie XL2566K, Alienware AW2725DF) and the very early adopters are on 480Hz. Past 240Hz the gains are smaller, but the cost of dropping below it is real.

What's a good eDPI for a beginner trying to match the pros?

Start in the 700–1000 eDPI range. Most easily: 400 DPI × 2.0 sens = 800 eDPI. That's right in the pro pocket — fast enough to flick across the screen, slow enough that micro-adjustments stay controllable. Spend a week in deathmatch with it before tweaking.

Do CS2 pros use mouse acceleration?

No, never. Every pro uses Raw Input On + Mouse Acceleration Off + Windows pointer speed 6/11 (the 1:1 default). Mouse acceleration breaks muscle memory — the same hand movement produces different camera turns depending on speed, which makes consistent aim impossible. Turn it off in both CS2 and Windows.

Why do CS2 pros set Global Shadow Quality to Low instead of Lowest?

Player shadows are a callout — you can see an enemy's shadow on the ground before they peek a corner. "Low" still renders player shadows at reduced quality, but "Lowest" disables them entirely and removes that information. Pros want every bit of free intel, so Low (not Lowest) is the universal pick.

What mouse do most CS2 pros use?

The Logitech G Pro X Superlight (1 and 2) is the most-used mouse on the CS2 pro scene by a wide margin. The Razer Viper V3 Pro and Pulsar X2/X3 also have meaningful share. The common thread: all are wireless, all weigh 60–65g, all have ~1ms response time.

Are CS2 pro settings the same as CS:GO settings?

Mostly yes. Sensitivity, DPI, crosshair commands (cl_crosshair*), viewmodel, and gear all transferred directly from CS:GO to CS2 — most pros didn't change a thing. The few CS2-specific tweaks: subtick movement (no config needed), the crosshair share-code system (in addition to console commands), and some video settings have new names. The fundamentals are unchanged.
